Jay Schlanger, OD
Hi folks,
For those of you who I have yet to see, here is a quick bio on me. I was born in LA. Went to University High School, did 2 years at USC (although I am a loyal Bruin fan) and went to optometry school at UC Berkeley. I started practicing optometry in 1977 and have always focused my practice on difficult contact lens fitting (that’s how I met my wife) and eye disease diagnosis and treatment. I pride my practice in being a friendly, no rush, personal style of practice. I consider my patients like family. I like to spend time getting to know my patients on a personal basis. This helps me to better provide you the glasses or contact lenses that you need.
I started practicing at Cedars Sinai with several ophthalmologists. It was a fantastic experience to be involved with many of the new and innovative changes in eye care, such as laser surgery, implants, and keratoconus treatments from their early times. I have been involved in over 11 FDA studies on laser vision correction and over 10 FDA studies on contact lenses. I moved out to the valley about 10 years ago. Presently, I am involved in developing new scleral lens designs for patients with keratoconus, transplants, herptic eye disease and other advanced problems with the cornea.
I have 3 sons and 3 granddaughters. I live here in the Valley. My wife, Lydia, told me that she married me because I was the first person to fit her successfully with contacts and because I was the only guy she met who could cook as good as her, and all this time I thought it was because of my dashing good looks! She is a retired elementary school teacher and enjoys reading and being with our grand kids. As you can see by the photo, I love old rock and roll music and have taken up playing the banjo.
I look forward to meeting you and learning about you, your family and how I can help you to see the best you can. See you soon.
Doc Jay.
